Mingo Fishtrap

“This all-in, guns blazing spirit they seem to share on stage is blessed live treatment for their really beautiful, sophisticated type of dance-soul music.”Live Music News & Review“You could mix any track by Mingo Fishtrap in a playlist with anyone from Robert Randolph to Galactic to Tedeschi/Trucks.”

The Pop Break

Austin, Texas doesn’t have a Trombone Shorty, the Subdudes or Dirty Dozen Brass Band like New Orleans does but they do have Mingo Fishtrap, and they’re just as funky and soulful as those bands with a healthy dash of Motown tossed into their pot.”

Something Else Reviews

“It’s clear that even with the revival of soul and funk music in recent years, only a few bands can match the vocal intensity Blevins offers combined with the instrumental prowess of his bandmates.”

Texas Music Magazine calls Mingo Fishtrap “the space where melodic pop meets gritty Memphis soul, with a twist of N’awlins funk.” Like kudzu vine crisscrossing the Mississippi Delta, Mingo’s tenacious sound infiltrates the musical landscape on a sanctified mission to shake your soul. The critically acclaimed collective have found their sweet spot. Now four albums deep, Mingo has honed its sound, rubbed shoulders with musical idols, and delivered powerhouse live shows to crowds of thousands across the country and globe in the years since the band’s inception in a tiny dorm room in Denton, Texas.

About your hosts

CJ Loiodice

Profile picture for CJ Loiodice
CJ is a bit long winded, so we decided to write the bio for him. He works in education, but is a classically trained operatic/classical singer who knows his theory...most days. CJ plays all saxophones, and pretends to play the piano. He is an audio engineer who works on both independent and short films. Music is his first love. “Music is all around us, even in silence.” - CJ (yes, we quoted him)

Kyle Mazur

Profile picture for Kyle Mazur
Despite being an IT professional, Kyle is a classically trained pianist. He also plays organ, french horn, trumpet and trombone. A skilled audio engineer and arranger Kyle has written and arranged pieces for church choirs and arranged, performed and recorded full orchestrations of hymns for churches of all denominations.

This journey has led Kyle down the path of Audiophile, experimenting with Hi-Res audio systems in order to experience music and not just hear it.
